Life’s Moments

Sometimes taking a chance and stepping outside of my comfort zone can be rewarding. It allows me to discover new things about myself and enjoy life’s moments even in the midst of a storm.

Three days ago—the day after Christmas—I found myself in the pouring rain. On purpose. And happy. I was hiking a trail that I partially hiked several years ago but never finished.

This time I was prepared. I had my poncho, hiking boots and water. Last time, it was a spur-of-the-moment decision to hike in my sandals. Slipping and sliding in the mud was what I remembered.

Mud was the least of my concerns this time around. It was storming, raining pretty much all day, and it was coming down hard. The stream became a raging river.

I prayed. I actually asked God for His favor and prayed for our safety before we went. I wanted an adventure, but a safe one.

Hiking up to see the waterfall turned out to be memorable. Braving the stormy weather proved to be rewarding. Witnessing the power of nature in God’s garden was fascinating yet humbling. And, best of all, was the warm soul who hiked by my side.
