Make Space

Asians usually clean their house before the new year. But the new year came and went, and my place still looked the same.

But who says you can’t clean at the BEGINNING of a new year instead of the end?! Perhaps I can aim for Chinese New Year (Feb. 8), even though I’m not Chinese. 🙂

Getting rid of “stuff” that I’ve collected over the years was hard at first. I realized I felt guilty for spending the money on the item and to “get rid of it,” felt like a waste, even though it would be donated. But once I got the ball rolling and started tossing things I could part with, I was excited. I took that first step.

It must be that time of year or perhaps I just got sick and tired of being sick and tired.

A new year. A new me. A fresh start.

The idea of making space in my life allows new opportunities to come through. Apparently, I’ve been doing the same thing with my relationships and friendships. I’ve cut some ties with people who no longer have a place in my life. People who I’ve tolerated long enough.

I am beginning a new chapter. And I’ve got the pen in my hand. I’ve still got a long way to go, but at least I’m off to a great start.

One of the blogs that gave tips about how to have more with less asked the question, “Where do you want to create more space?”

It was definitely food for thought, but now I am aware of how “making space” for something could take on several different meanings.

Who am I making room for in my life? How am I spending my time each day? Which prompts me to challenge myself and ask, “Where in MY life do I want to create more space?”
