I’m usually careful when it comes to keeping track of my belongings. I never thought I’d ever forget my phone in a taxi, but it happens to the best of us.
I’m grateful that the day I lost my cell phone in Chicago, I took Lyft. Earlier in the morning, I contemplated whether or not I should hop in a cab outside my hotel, or request a taxi through my Lyft app. Thank God, I opted for the second option, which proved to be greatly beneficial to me.
Upon arriving at the Sears Tower—my first stop of the day—I was preoccupied. Multitasking. Not paying attention really. I was texting a sister from another mister and chatting to the driver about standing on the glass floor 103 stories above the ground.
I could’ve sworn I did a quick glance on the backseat before I left his car. Apparently, I didn’t check my surroundings “good enough” before I stepped outside. First stop of the day and I was already off to a bad start.
I refused to let this set the tone of my day. I was going to have a great day despite this unpredicted setback.
Instead of panicking, I reminded myself of what I was thankful for.
The first thing on my gratitude list: thank God I took Lyft. The second thing: thank God for two phones. The third thing: thank God for God watching over me.
With my personal phone, I was able to access my Lyft app and fill out a form right away that I left something in the driver’s car. The driver called me back quickly and said he would drive back to the tower after he dropped off a passenger.
Had I taken a random taxi outside of my hotel, I would have never seen my phone again. I wouldn’t have even known what taxi company I was riding. Was it the yellow cab or a white taxi?
Things happen for a reason.
I’m glad I listened to the voice that said take a Lyft taxi that morning. But more importantly, I’m forever grateful that God has my back and best interest at heart, even when I make mistakes.
